Police Officer

The Logan Township Board of Supervisors will accept applications for a vacancy for the position of Police Officer from those individuals meeting the general qualifications as listed below. Applications are available at the Police Department, located in the Logan Township Municipal Building, 100 Chief Logan Circle, Altoona, PA 16602, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM until 4:30 PM, or on the Township website www.logantownship-pa.gov. All applications must be returned to the Police Department by 4:00 PM on January 2, 2025.

The written, physical fitness and interviews with our Police Commission Board will be conducted on January 4th, 2025. 

 

•Testing will be conducted on January 4th, 2025 at 9:00AM

 

•Interviews will be conducted on January 4th, 2025 at 1:00PM

 

Act 120 is required by the day of hire by employer.

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS FOR ALL APPLICANTS

 

  1. Must be a citizen of the United States of America as of application due date.
  2. Must be a high school graduate or possess a General Education Development (GED) certificate as of application due date.
  3. Must be twenty-one (21) years of age on or before appointment as a police officer.
  4. Must possess or able to obtain and retain a valid Pennsylvania operator’s license at the time of appointment.
  5. Must have successfully completed PA Act 120 training for municipal police officers on or before appointment as a police officer.
  6. Applicants must be of good moral character, with no felony or misdemeanor convictions.
  7. Must successfully complete the entire selection process consisting of:

a)   Written examination with a score of 80% or higher.

b)   Physical Fitness Test (MPOETC entry standard based on Cooper Institute 30%).

c)   Oral Interview with a final score of 140 or higher.

  1. Must successfully complete a probationary period of employment of twelve (12) months.
  2. Post-secondary education or military service are desirable.  Any applicant with prior military service must possess an honorable discharge.
  3. A check or money order in the amount of $50.00, made payable to “Logan Township” to cover testing fees must be attached to the returned application. This fee is non-refundable.

Starting patrol salary $57,618 increasing yearly to full patrol salary $84,575; medical, dental and vision benefits; 50% pension after 25 years; up to five weeks vacation; family sick time; individually assigned patrol car; uniform laundry service; uniform and equipment allowance, military buy-back, and up to $5,000 police academy reimbursement.
